Every company placed by two things: how far its reach extends (left to right) and how modern its product is (bottom to top). The bigger the dot, the higher the overall score. Color shows which band it sits in.
How to read this. The field splits cleanly into two groups. On the right sit the reach-heavy incumbents · the card rails and the merchant-and-bank software giants, with enormous reach but older, lower-scoring products. On the upper-left sit the product-heavy modern players · smaller reach, but the most modern technology. Stripe and Adyen manage both at once, up and to the right. Fiserv sits firmly on the incumbent side: strong reach, but one of the lowest product scores in the field · which is exactly the gap the modern players are pressing on.
